Spain Digital Nomad Visa Requirements

The Digital Nomad Visa for Spain is available to citizens of countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland. Contact us for a consultation to assess your visa eligibility.

Applicants must be employed at their current organization for at least three months.

The company must issue a signed letter authorizing you to work remotely. All functions must be carried out from a remote location.

The company you work for must have been incorporated for at least the last 12 months.

If you are a freelancer or a company owner, you must prove that you have had a commercial relationship with one or more companies for at least three months.

You must have a clean criminal record history.

As an employee of a company, you must have comprehensive health insurance coverage valid in Spain.

As a self-employed or business owner, you must register as self-employed in Spain once the permit is granted.

  • You must show enough financial resources to support yourself and your family during your residency. This includes 200% of the monthly minimum wage (SMI) for yourself, plus 75% of the SMI for the first family member and 25% of the SMI for each additional family member.
  • As of 2025, this would be €2,763 for the main applicant, an additional €1,036 for the first family member and €345 for each additional family member.

Companies authorizing remote work must be based outside Spain. Self-employed individuals or contractors can work for a Spanish company, but it must not exceed 20% of their total professional activity.

Always from the condition that your work can only be carried out exclusively through computer, telematic, and telecommunication means and systems, there are two possible scenarios:

  • Employment relationship: You can work in Spain only for companies located outside the country.
  • Professional relationship: You can work for a Spanish company if:
  • You maintain your primary professional relationship with your original company.
  • Your work for Spanish companies is under a professional (not employment) relationship.
  • Your work for Spanish companies is at most 20% of your total professional activity.

The holder must have health insurance from a company authorized to operate in Spain.

Our immigration lawyers can verify whether the insurance provider meets the Ministry’s requirements. Most international insurance providers do not meet these requirements.

The policy must have the same coverage as Social Security does without co-payments to avoid medical tourism.
